The operative word is principle. If you treat ecology as an absolute it necessitates an anti human lifestyle. If you treat it as a useful science for the sake of sustainable human life, then the EPA is in theory a legitimate agency of government.

NBC News: President Obama vowed continuing support of recovery efforts in Oso, Wash., after touring the site of the deadly mudslide that hit the area.
“We’re not going anywhere, we’ll be there as long as it takes,” Obama said at a firehouse after taking an aerial tour of the destruction site and meeting with families of victims and first responders.
Obama also praised the strength of Oso as it mourns the loss of more than 40 people killed in the slide.
